How a Manufacturer Drives Energy Procurement Savings & Efficiency

How is Cummins Inc. turning energy efficiency into a competitive advantage—both inside its operations and across its global customer base?

Join us for an engaging discussion with a senior leader from Cummins Inc. as we explore how the company is rethinking energy procurement, utilization, and innovation to advance its bold Destination Zero strategy.

In this candid conversation, you’ll hear how Cummins is driving measurable efficiency gains across its own facilities through investments in renewable energy, smart building systems, LED lighting, HVAC optimization, solar installations, motor upgrades, and regenerative dynamometers—delivering meaningful cost savings while significantly reducing CO2 emissions. Beyond internal operations, Cummins is also helping customers cut fuel use and emissions through advanced power solutions, including hydrogen fuel cells, battery energy storage, alternative fuels, and next-generation internal combustion engine controls such as stop-start technology.

The discussion will connect the dots between energy procurement decisions, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability goals, offering real-world insights into how Cummins integrates energy strategy across manufacturing, transportation, power generation, and data center environments. Attendees will gain a behind-the-scenes look and case study at how a global industrial leader balances innovation, efficiency, and resilience while building scalable, low- and zero-emissions solutions for the future.

Whether you’re responsible for sourcing energy, managing facilities, shaping sustainability strategy, or supporting enterprise-wide procurement decisions, this session will provide practical takeaways and strategic perspective you can apply within your own organization.

Highlights from the President

Hello Northwest Supply Chain Professionals,

Welcome to the 2024-2025 ISM—Western Washington professional development season.  September will kick off our yearly professional educational series again that will run monthly through May. We will have another great lineup this year.

We will be focused on three key areas:

  1. Provide in-person networking events to help you meet and connect with other supply chain professionals in a relaxed environment.  These face-to-face social events are intended for our members to build their network that will help provide future opportunities in collaboration, employment and hopefully friendships across industries.
  2. Build connections between supply chain professionals and students who are the future of our profession. We will accomplish this by building connections with local colleges and universities, providing additional opportunities for ISM members to mentor, guest speak and provide guidance for the next generation of supply chain professionals.
  3. Build a formalized VoM (Voice of Member) feedback system and VoM committee so we can continue to build programs and events that will shape the future of ISM—Western Washington. Your feedback and ideas are critical to continuing to improve and progress as a professional organization.

This year ISM—Western Washington will look to bring supply chain professionals in the Northwest together to share those challenging times and lessons learned while helping guide and build up those who will be the future of our profession.

I look forward to seeing you at events and engaging with you as we continue to shape the future of ISM—Western Washington.

Thomas Le, CPSM

Monetization from procurement analytics requires execution beyond basic spend visibility. Markets move faster than procurement cycles: commodity prices shift, freight rates fluctuate, suppliers adjust margins, and labor costs tighten while analysts are still validating reports. By the time opportunities reach buyers, the economics may already have changed, creating a costly identification-to-realization gap.
